SESSIONS at A197 - Joel Bray + Chris Cheers
SESSIONS IS BACK!!!
We are kicking off the year with Naarm-based artist Joel Bray and psychologist Chris Cheers.
Please join us at the ASSEMBLY 197 Studio - Wednesday 31st of January - 5:30-7:30pm.
Joel will be in residence at A197 from the 22nd-31st of January. Joel is using his time at Assembly197 to develop a new dance-theatre worked called Homo Pentecostus. Drawing on his experiences growing up Koori and Queer in the Pentecostal Church, this new performance wrestles with the interactions and contradictions between ancestry, faith and Queerness.
Join Joel for an informal yarn about his practice, his body of work and about this new work Homo Pentecostus. Followed by a Q&A with Joel and Chris discussing sustainable and safe artistic practices.

SITUATE 24-25 DIGITAL + LIVE APPLICATIONS OPEN
SITUATE 24-25 is dedicated to developing bold and experimental work by regionally based emerging and mid-career artists from all disciplines. It prioritises artistic excellence while ensuring the process and results benefit artists. The program will explore digital and live project outcomes, working to create sustainability and reach for regional artists by exploring ways to connect with a global audience.
The theme of this two-year program explores work that exists in digital and live scenarios. This program aims to equip artists with the skills to engage with digital technology to enhance their creative vision and connect them with broader audiences nationally and internationally. The artists will be challenged to embrace new ideas, generate bold concepts, think about larger-scale projects, and approach their practice in novel ways. This program will be designed by Situate, with guidance from immersive media practitioner Claire Evans from Junior Major.

Ground
Ground is an artist-designed stage and a collaboration with Country (place) facilitated by Priscilla Beck and Sinsa Mansell.

Ground is an invitation to form a deeper connection to place; the beginning and the end of a journey. Artists and audiences alike are encouraged to activate the stage, through performance, sharing and celebrating art, storytelling and culture, as well as intimate moments of pause and reflection.

Soundbathing 3
Soundbathing is a series of inclusive music and sound immersion sessions held in Launceston that hopes to bring together wellness and music communities. Hosted by Assembly 197 on Wellington Street, we aim to provide a space for immersive, meditative, and ambient music.
Bring your own yoga mat, chair or sleeping mat, and immerse yourself in sound. This session is the third in the soundbathing series, and we present Ivo and Pavel Sedlacek, a father and son duo with formidable music backgrounds who travel the world playing the spherical violin(33-string violin invented by ivo) and hangpan in innovative ways. It is their first time in Tasmania and the ONLY show. Come on down for a relaxing start to your weekend.
